SIB

Somewhere In-Between (SIB) Group

Are you

Somewhere in-between the office and the bills…
Somewhere in-between soccer practice and the dishes…
Somewhere in-between having kids and sending them off to college…

Then this may be the group for you!

The Somewhere In-Between (SIB) group started in 2000 when several young couples and singles, most of whom were new to Vancouver First, got together to enjoy fellowship over a meal and came away with a sense of belonging.  As the years have passed, this group has ‘grown’ to include a whole crop of parents of young children – some joining the group and some by having children!  The SIB group is a great place to find friends who can relate to the hectic schedule of families with young kids.  We’re all about providing a caring and comfortable place for you and your family.

Family fun and fellowship are at the heart of the SIB group, and you can see it in the faces of the SIB’s at every turn.  Laughter and camaraderie abound at the SIB functions, but the SIB group is not just about friends and fun.  SIB is really a way of looking at your spiritual life too….Whether it’s supporting a friend with a listening ear, or pitching in to help at a church work day.  From monthly potlucks/gatherings to full-blown camping retreats, the SIB’s try to find God in the everyday things that we all can relate to.

Monthly Potlucks – Held in Jason Lee Hall, the SIB’s cook up a storm (at home) and share a feast and some fellowship with friends.  This is a time for everyone to touch base and to plan our next events.  Nursery care is provided for children kindergarten and younger.  Older children are entertained with games and/or a movie.

Past Events:Book Drive – Allison Duncan organized a book drive in August for the Reach Out and Read Program. It supplies new books to children 6 months to 5 years at their well child check up visits.  In one month we collected over 70 books for the children.

Sponsor a Family in December – Each year, the SIBs choose families to sponsor for the holiday season.  We supply the families with needed clothes and food as well as some extra surprises for the children.

Retreat – We had another wonderful SIB Retreat in 2011 over memorial weekend.  Held each year at Ocean Park Camp, this is a chance to get away and get closer to God, and to your fellow SIBs.  The adults enjoyed fellowship and did a wonderful service project for the camp – re-roofing one of the lodges.  And, of course, the kids enjoyed play time and fun, with time at the beach as well.

Clean Up Crew – The SIB’s got together for a little “home grown” mission work – providing a helping hand at the homes of a couple of older folks from church.  20 adults and children went out to lend a little ‘muscle’ doing a bit of spring yard work – trimming, raking, shoveling, weeding, thinning, pruning, filling and generally cleaning up.  A great time was had by all, and it was our pleasure to help out.
