Opportunities at VanFUMC

Knitting Group
The Knitting Group focuses on items for PeaceHealth SW Medical Center, such as knitted baby hats, baby sweaters, and baby blankets for stillborn babies, as well as preemies.  They have a lot of fun talking about everything and anything that comes into their minds. They also pray for each other, and help each other with their projects.  They are open to all persons that can already knit and to those that would like to learn, as there are many talented ladies that would be very willing to teach you!  The group meets every Monday morning at 9:30am in the Conrad Room.

Monday Night Leaven Group
Please join us Monday nights beginning September 11 at 6:30pm in the Conrad Room for a spiritual journey where we study religious texts of the group’s choosing.  We will select a book to study on September 11, so bring your ideas!  See you there.

Bridges Group
Our group is going to be busy in September! Our main project will be to re-stripe the church parking lots.  We need to get that completed before the rainy season hits.  John Gentry is the lead for this project.  We can sure use help as there will be a lot of sweeping to prepare for the paint. Date and time to follow.

Seekers Class
We will be starting with the second season of the National Geographic series, “The Story of God”. Host Morgan Freeman, travels in search of answers in some of humanity’s biggest questions. We will be watching the DVD for about 25 minutes followed by 25 minutes of discussion.

SIB
What is “SIB”? Are you Somewhere In Between graduating from college and sending your kids to college? Then this may be the group for you! The Somewhere In-Between (SIB) group started in 2000 when several young couples and singles, most of whom were new to Vancouver First, got together to enjoy fellowship over a meal and came away with a sense of belonging. The SIB group is a great place to find friends who can relate to the hectic schedule of families with young kids. Whether it’s supporting a friend with a listening ear, or pitching in to help at a church work day. From monthly potlucks/gatherings to full-blown camping retreats, the SIB’s try to find God in the everyday things that we all can relate to. To connect with the group, please contact the church office!

Congregational Care Team
For the past year, a group of dedicated volunteers have been visiting those in our congregation who have are ill, home bound or needing extra support.  Everyone on the team feels blessed as they extend Christ’s love out to others through their presence and prayers.  In addition to the individual visits, this team meets monthly for support, encouragement and education. If visiting those at home or in care centers is a ministry you feel called to, please contact Mary Lookingbill.  She would love to talk further with you about this call to serve others. If you know of someone who might benefit from a friendly visitor, please contact either the church office (360-693-5881) or contact the Care Team Lead: Rev. Mary Lookingbill at m.lookingbill@comcast.net / 360-597-8045.  We want to make sure that we are taking care of our brothers and sisters in Christ.
