The mission statement of for all United Methodists is fairly simple – “To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” It comes straight out of our Lord’s final commission that we are to “go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” Matthew 28:19. Even though this mission statement is simple to remember it has become difficult to internalize and live. We have found that it raises all sorts of questions like: “What does a disciple look like? What is the process for making disciples? Do disciples of Jesus Christ look different than people who are not attending church? What does transformation of the world look like? Better yet, what does personal transformation look like?
Our Leaven Group program is one of the intentional ways we make disciples in our church. They are small groups that meet weekly to companion each other in our spiritual journeys. There are currently five Leaven Groups that are all studying the same book and reading a daily devotional written just for them. During the meetings they pray together, share their thoughts on the readings, talk about their spiritual journeys, and encourage each other.
At least once a quarter they do a mission project as a group so that they can experience the joy of serving others and sharing Christ’s love together.
The groups meet at different times throughout the week so that there are various options available. If you are interested in joining a Leaven Group and deepening your spiritual journey, please contact Pastor David or the church office.
