Community Day of Service

August 7

As a vital part of this community, we would like to invite each of you to step out in service throughout Vancouver.  Saturday, August 7, is designated as Vancouver First United Methodist Church's community day of service.  We have several family-friendly service projects throughout Vancouver for you to take part in.  Choose one of the projects listed below and bring the whole family to participate.

Whether you have been able to participate in a service project or not, meet back at the church around 4:30 for an all-church BBQ and movie.  We will have fun and fellowship out on the front lawn with good food and games.  At 6:30pm, we will show the movie, Up, in Jason Lee Hall.

  •    Team DRIP Painting Party

Several of our members of gone throughout Clark County completing DRywall, Insulation, and Painting projects.  We have another opportunity to serve.  We will meet at Inn at the Orchards at 9:00am to paint a couple rooms, hallways and doors.  Bring any painting supplies that you may have or just show up ready to work.

  •    Compassion Vancouver

Compassion Vancouver is a collective of local churches working together to bring health and dental care to the community that does not have access to care.  This organization will have a health day on August 7th at Washington Elementary School, providing free medical care, dental care, lunches, children's activities, and a social services fair.  They will need lots of volunteers from area churches to complete this day.  People can help with greeting, food, working with children, directing traffic, set-up or clean-up, and lots more.  A complete list of volunteer opportunities and online sign ups are available through Compassion Vancouver's website (www.compassionvancouver.com).  Most volunteers are needed between 7:30am - 3:30pm.

  •     Food Baskets

Multiple times a year, Vancouver First provides food baskets for families in need.  On August 7th, we will be sorting and counting the food that has been collected this month.  Then we will distribute the food into individual baskets for families.  We also need volunteers to help distribute the boxes to the families that afternoon.  We will meet at 10:00am in the lower lobby of Vancouver First for this project.

  •     Gardening at Discovery Middle School

We will be preparing a garden plot that the students at Discovery Middle School will tend throughout the school year.  We will be clearing the area and preparing the soil for planting.  Bring your gardening gloves and tools (esp. shovels, wheelbarrows, and picks).  We will meet in front of Discovery School at 9:00am.

If you have questions about any of these projects, please contact the church office (693-5881) or email Elizabeth ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
