Thoughts from Pastor Eilidh
The next 2 weeks will be celebrations of the younger generation. This Sunday our children and youth will lead us in worship and then next week we will celebrate our graduates and the amazing work the the Vancouver Methodist Foundation does in giving scholarships out to the wider community. The spirit is moving; in the growth of children, in the learning supported by the faithful folks of this church, in the ways we learn from one another.
Who were the ones along your journey of faith and learning that supposed you? One of the people who taught me about the value of questions and laughter was my Uncle John. He is the one in teal in this picture, looking out over my sister, her husband, and my husband as I snap this photo from my mom’s funeral luncheon. John was witty and wise. He always asked good questions and had wonderful stories. From him I learned that the world was amazing, that good food and good wine went with good conversation, and that there was always more to learn. John passed away early this month and my daughter Paige will be attending his funeral next week in Pitlochry, Scotland where he and his wife Mary lived in retirement. Although he never had his own children, John was always willing to let us play with him and while he wasn’t always sure what we were on about, he was game none-the-less to try and engage with us. I am so grateful for who he was and how he saw the world and I know he will always be looking out for us, keeping an eye on things, just like in this picture.
We never know the impact we have on others, especially as they are learning and growing. I am grateful for this church that embraces and supports young folks and for all the ways the spirit is moving in us as we learn and grow as community. Blessings, Pastor Eilidh |
