Thoughts from Pastor Eilidh
Later this month a group of us will be gathering outside to share candy with kids. The day before that we are inviting folks into our sanctuary to watch a scary move. And yes there will be popcorn!
These things may not seem like the work of the church- candy and movies- and yet both of these Halloween activities are ways of loving our neighbors. We have been so fortunate that the people who came before us at this church built a beautiful sanctuary, updated it, and chose such a workhorse of an organ! This month on October 30th we get to share all of that with our community through s showing of the 1920’s silent movie Phantom of the Opera. We are also sharing the gifts of our incredibly talented Music Director, Martin Ellis. This is a moment of fun, but it also shows that our church is a safe place, that we have beautiful things to offer, and that we are good neighbors. I hope you will invite your friends and neighbors over age 12 (the movie is a little scary!) and join us October 30th. Doors open at 6:30 and the show begins at 7pm. We will have snacks and drinks for sale.
The next night, October 31st, Susan Lee Schwartz is leading a Trunk or Treat event in our east parking lot. We are inviting families to come to a safe place to trick or treat. You can still sign up to bring your car and decorate it or you can donate candy to this event. It is a great way to connect with local families and once again to communicate that our church is a place that is connected to the neighborhood, plus it should be a lot of fun and a good excuse for grownups to get to wear costumes!
We are a church that belongs to our community and this fall we are welcoming in folks in lots of ways. Thank you for your faithfulness and your willingness to share life with our neighbors. Blessings, Pastor Eilidh |
