Worship Script for May 10th

Thoughts from Pastor Eilidh

Beloved people of God,

This week we received heartbreaking news of child abuse allegations involving a former participant in our church, Michael Wilmington, along with word of his death.

Please know that the larger United Methodist Church is ready to support anyone who may have been impacted in any way. Care and confidential resources are available. You are welcome to reach out to me or to Mary Lookingbill for connection, listening, and care. If you are aware of someone who may need support, a check-in, or accompaniment in sharing their story, please let us know so we can reach out.

Situations like this carry deep and complex effects. Abuse in any form is a profound violation of trust and dignity, and we grieve alongside survivors and their families. We are grateful to the civil authorities investigating this matter. Naming what has happened—and acknowledging the pain it brings—is an important part of who we are called to be as the Church: a community grounded in God, committed to caring for one another, and dedicated to cultivating a culture of safety, accountability, and compassion.

I invite you to look at this great resource from Bravehearts that can help us be aware and ready to respond in ways that care for us all.

You are in my prayers.

Grace and peace,
Pastor Eilidh

Educational Opportunities

Educational Opportunities

Starting this May we have some amazing new education opportunities!

Pastor Eilidh will be leading the XYZ book group for people in those generations (IYKYK). Starting in May we will be meeting monthly to discuss essays from the book Into The Mess & Other Jesus Stories: Reflections on the Life of Christ by Debie Thomas. This book reflects on different stories from Jesus’ life and how we can understand them today. Often sharing her own life experiences the author reveals the incarnate God who loves us in the messiness of our lives. Due to a variety of schedules and needs we are offering two meeting times: Sundays after church over brunch once a month or on Monday evenings once a month over zoom.  For more details check out the event on our website here.

Then in June Melody Mello, who has been part of our online worshiping community for a few years now, will be leading an online discussion of the book Taste and See by Margaret Feinberg. Amazon describes the book as a culinary exploration of Scripture.  The class will be on Thursday evenings from 6:30pm-8pm starting June 11 and running through July 16. For more details check out the event on our website here.

There is also a wonderful opportunity for each of us to participate in online Disciple studies through the Be A Disciple App.  Detailed instructions can be found here.  If you are interested in joining a Disciple Bible class or other study online and would like some help to set it all up please feel free to reach out to Pastor Eilidh for help with the technical details!

Don’t forget we also have Mondays with Tom, Tuesdays with Larry, Bible Study with Pastor Eilidh, and Adult Sunday School each week!  While some of our groups take a break over the summer, others continue year round.  Check out our event page for all the up to date details.

As we continue the work of faith formation, educational opportunities are a key part of the work.  If you are longing for something that isn't being offered, or have an interest in leading something please reach out to Pastor Eilidh.
