Thoughts from Pastor Eilidh
This week is both one of my favorite weeks in the rhythm of the church year and one of my least favorite. I love this story and the power of sitting with God in spaces of death, choice, betrayal, and love. And of course the mystic wonder that is Easter Sunrise worship has long been central to my faith. I am sustained by this moment where we proclaim that love is bigger than anything that empire or systems or people or evil can bring to the table. I feel like we especially need that now in this season of war and division. Holy Week is a rich season with so much of God’s life and way packed in. I love all of it so much and have such fond memories from childhood of special worship moments. It is of course my least favorite week because I am not an early riser and 3 extra worship experiences mean a lot of work and energy! But I will trade the sleep and the time to be present to this incredible moment where we face the hard things, we see Christ humiliated and know that God is not with us just in blessings and joy, God is with us in the darkest parts of our experiences. God is in the darkest parts of human experience, calling us all not to look away, but to extend mercy and grace, love and forgiveness in it all. I hope you can join in this week with our special worship times.
